Persistent, foul odor in the Lake Constance region: A mystery for almost ten years

A persistent, foul odor near Lake Constance in Friedrichshafen has plagued residents for nearly ten years. Since authorities could not identify the source, an expert office was commissioned. The city urgently requests public reports detailing the odor's characteristics, time, and wind direction to solve the mystery.

For almost ten years, a persistent odor event has been plaguing residents in Friedrichshafen, occurring near Lake Constance. This odor nuisance is most noticeably perceptible at night in the eastern part of Friedrichshafen. The affected areas are specifically St. Georgen, the B31, and the Rotach.

Despite extensive investigations, neither the fire department nor other authorities have been able to clearly identify the source of the odor or the substances contained within it. Given the ongoing nature of the problem, an expert office has now been commissioned to solve this decades-long mystery. The city administration is therefore actively calling on the public for assistance. Specifically, detailed reports are requested in which residents should document characteristics of the odor, the exact time of occurrence, and the prevailing wind direction. This cooperation is intended to help recognize the patterns behind the odor mystery and thus clarify the cause of a problem that has existed in the Lake Constance region for almost ten years.
