Study Links Daily Sugary Soft Drink Consumption to Increased Stomach Cancer Risk

A study involving over 112,000 participants found a link between consuming sugary soft drinks daily and a higher risk of stomach cancer. The risk was estimated to be threefold for women and two and a half times for men. Researchers noted this is an observational study and does not prove direct causation.

A recently published study has found a link between the daily consumption of sugary soft drinks and an increased risk of stomach cancer in women and men. The analysis was based on data from over 112,000 participants. The results suggest that the daily intake of these sugary drinks is significantly associated with an increased risk of stomach cancer. For women, this increased risk was estimated to be about threefold, while for men, the increase was roughly two and a half times higher. Interestingly, the study showed no comparable association with low-calorie, sweetened alternatives. However, it is important to emphasize that the present study is an observational study and therefore does not prove a direct causal link. Nevertheless, the findings shed considerable light on dietary habits and their potential impact on gut health.
