Psyllium Husks for Dogs: Benefits, Uses, and Risks

Psyllium husks are considered a natural fiber supplement for dogs and can support digestive health. They help regulate natural bowel function and promote gut flora.

These husks show specific functions, especially with diarrhea and constipation. With diarrhea, they can bind excess fluid, while with constipation, they support intestinal passage. Due to these properties, psyllium husks are particularly suitable for dogs with sensitive stomachs or after antibiotic treatment.

However, caution is advised when administering them. The dosage is approximately one teaspoon per ten kilograms of body weight. Furthermore, sufficient swelling and adequate water intake must be ensured for an effective effect.

Although the benefits are clear, consulting a veterinarian is strongly recommended, especially with pre-existing conditions. Professional advice ensures that the treatment is safe and appropriate.
