The political debate is currently dominated by two main strands: on one hand, the urgent need for concrete economic relief measures, and on the other hand, critical warnings against the AfD's stance in various areas.
In economic policy, Friedrich Merz of the CDU is strongly advocating for rapid support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as craft businesses. Parallel to this, there are clear signals from the political camp positioning themselves against the AfD. Klaus Ernst of the BSW emphatically rejects supporting the AfD due to ideological incompatibilities. Social policy is also a focus of concern: Carsten Linnemann of the CDU spoke out against planned cuts to pension entitlements for caregiving relatives.
The concerns extend beyond purely economic and social issues. Representatives of the Jewish community explicitly warned against the AfD, particularly because of its tendency to downplay Nazi crimes.
