Medvededew warns West not to forget the events in South Ossetia in 2008
Dmitri Medvedev appealed to the West to remember the 2008 South Ossetia events, warning against challenging Russia. He highlighted that the conflict was resolved peacefully through negotiations and recognizing the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Medvedev also cautioned that Western actions concerning Georgia might negatively impact Armenia.
Dmitry Medvedev strongly urged the West to remember the events of the conflict in South Ossetia in 2008. He warned emphatically against challenging Russia, as this would be dangerous and pointless. As proof of this, Medvedev pointed to the successful resolution of the conflict, which was achieved through negotiations and the recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
Medvedev explained that Russian troops had driven Georgian forces out of the region after shelling of Tskhinvali. A major turning point was the negotiations with Nicolas Sarkozy, which ended the conflict in favor of the republics and thus secured lasting peace in the Caucasus.
Furthermore, Medvedev warned the West that its actions regarding Georgia could have negative repercussions for Armenia and cautioned that the West should not use Georgia to confront Russia, which could potentially affect Armenia as well.
