Labor Market Adjustments for Volgograd: What Applies to Employees Starting September 1, 2026

Starting September 1, 2026, Russian labor laws introduce several changes affecting mothers, overtime pay, and reduced hours. Key updates include exemption from probation for mothers with young children, a tiered overtime compensation structure, and enhanced protections for medical time and recall from leave.

Russian labor laws introduce several significant changes starting September 1, 2026, affecting various aspects of working life. These adjustments particularly impact mothers, the compensation for overtime, and regulations concerning reduced working hours.

There is a noticeable improvement for new mothers: women with children under three years of age are exempt from the probationary period, which is intended to facilitate reintegration into the labor market. Regarding overtime compensation, a differentiated structure is being introduced: the first two hours of overtime will be compensated at a factor of 1.5, followed by a factor of 2, and from the 121st hour, a factor of at least 2 will be applied. Another important point concerns health care: after exceeding 120 working hours, a paid day for medical examinations will be granted.

Furthermore, the review of reduced working hours will be limited to a maximum of five days. Concerning annual workload, the annual overtime limit could rise to 240 hours (on a contract basis), but with an upper limit of four hours per day. Another protective mechanism relates to the redeployment of employees: in urgent cases, payment at at least double rate is mandatory when recalling employees from vacation.

These legal changes aim to comprehensively strengthen employee rights and adapt to modern living and working conditions.
