How Cycling is Banned in the City Center After E-Bike Incident with the Mayor

Como has banned cycling in its entire city center following an incident involving an e-bike rider and Mayor Alessandro Rapinese. The administration deems electric two-wheelers dangerous, requiring all cyclists to push their bikes in restricted zones. This move continues past restrictions and is expected to face protests, with one planned for mid-September.

The city of Como has banned cycling throughout its entire city center. This drastic step followed an incident in which an e-bike rider apprehended Mayor Alessandro Rapinese. The city administration increasingly views electric two-wheelers as a danger to public order and safety. As a consequence of the ban, all cyclists must push their bicycles in designated, restricted zones. This measure continues a series of previous restrictions in the city, such as the ban on rented e-scooters that has been in place since 2022. Given these far-reaching restrictions, resistance to the new ban is expected; even a protest tour against these measures is planned for mid-September.
