Household Robots: High Acceptance for Vacuuming, but Security Concerns Remain

A 2026 study conducted by Bitkom Research in Germany showed that the desire for support from household robots for everyday tasks such as vacuuming is high. The results highlight a tension between the desire for technical relief and the remaining concerns of consumers.
The survey identified clear main concerns of the public. At the top of these concerns were hacking attacks, mentioned by 59% of respondents, followed by the concern about data misuse, which affected 40% of participants. These security concerns constitute a clear brake on broad acceptance.
Another significant hurdle for the introduction of these devices is the purchase price, which was cited by 38% of respondents as a clear barrier to widespread adoption. Despite these economic and technical security concerns, the technical reliability of the robots is generally rated positively. However, it was simultaneously found that internet problems represent the most frequent cause of malfunctions with these devices.
