Health Minister Starts Term with Surplus in Care Fund Despite Rising Expenditures

The new Health Minister began his term with a surplus in the health insurance fund, even though service expenditures have increased. This development illustrates a complex picture in the healthcare system, where expenditures for insured persons per person have risen despite higher revenues.
Several cost drivers led to this increase. In particular, inpatient care recorded the largest block growth in costs at 8.8% in the first half of the year. Added to this are rising costs in home intensive care, which increased by 9.7%, and a cost increase of 9.3% for medical care services.
Experts cite increased personnel costs as the main reason for these rising hospital expenditures. Costs in the nursing sector, in particular, are considered a driving force behind the rising cost of hospital services.
