Fiber Moves to the Center of Nutrition: What Adults Need to Know

Attention to gut health is gaining momentum in nutritional counseling. In particular, sufficient fiber intake is increasingly in focus, while the need for protein remains high. According to the DGE, a daily intake of 30 grams of fiber is recommended for adults. However, many adults report consuming only around 20 grams of fiber, which represents a significant gap.

Fiber is considered indispensable for healthy digestion and maintaining gut flora. These important nutrients can primarily be found in plant-based foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. They not only aid in promoting digestion but also stabilize blood sugar levels.

At the same time, the need for protein must not be neglected, as protein is an essential building block particularly necessary for maintaining muscle mass. Experts emphasize that for optimal nutrient supply, adequate intake of both components—fiber and protein—should be ensured, as the combination of both nutrients is crucial for general well-being.
