Baden-Württemberg plans to introduce comprehensive regulations that drastically restrict the carrying and use of mobile phones in schools. This ban will take effect according to the specifications at the beginning of the 2027/28 school year and affects all schools throughout the state and all students in public schools. Generally, smartphones are prohibited throughout the entire school day, including breaks. However, the regulation provides for exceptions, especially for emergencies and specific health needs. Furthermore, there are exceptions for break times, boarding schools, and extracurricular events. Despite the general ban, the possibility of pedagogical use of devices in lessons is simultaneously maintained.
